Helloooo October! (1 week late)

Yesterday was the final performance of Baylor’s production of Into The Woods! I was playing in the pit, which made for a crazy two weeks since we had only 1 night off in the almost two week run (we had tech rehearsals the first few nights of week 1). It is an amazing show though and I had a blast playing Sondheim’s music! I’m pretty excited for the movie coming out in December! Anyone else?! Official Trailer in case you haven’t seen it!

During the show I managed to get in all of my weekday runs and workouts except 1, I was just too exhausted that morning. Most importantly, I ran a 9.25 miler and a 12.5miler on the two Saturdays. I knew if I didn’t make it through the show weeks my training plan might be ruined – but I survived!
I’ve also been working on a scholarship application for a possibility after graduation, which is due THIS week. On top of class, recital prep, and thesis writing. So it’s been pretty insane in my world, but hey I’m a busy bee kinda-gal.
But I made one healthy meal for my lunches this week that is super delicious so I had to jump on here and share. Honey Lime Sweet Potato, Black Bean, and Corn. I made this sweet potato taco filling sans honey, and I am eating it on it’s own with some avocado and it’s just too good!
I also made an incredibly delicious and easy breakfast pastry (not clean but not too terrible for you). Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls. I didn’t use all the butter and I didn’t make the frosting, which makes them a smidge healthier. I only kept 3 out and froze the rest to have for breakfast the next 2 or so weeks.

Weekend Update!

Today I slept it. It was glorious. I slept in until 8:30 am!!!! I keep feeling the cold waiting to come on and get me and I think sleeping in PLUS a two hour nap today really helped me recharge. 

Ben and I went for a 5 mile run this morning when it was actually hot? Today’s weather has been crazy! It is now breezy, chilly perfect running weather. However, this morning, it was humid and 80 degrees. It was not exactly the most pleasant of running weather and we had to stop and get water. I was pretty dehydrated. 

Tonight and tomorrow are my last 2 performances with LEGALLY BLONDE! This has been a really fun and great learning experience for me. After spending ages 5-18 on the stage singing and dancing, this was a great first experience playing in a musical pit. The cast has done a great job maintaining their voices and energy for an 11 show run and every audience brings new laughs. If you don’t know the show you can check out some of the music HERE – which is a cool look at the filming of the original Broadway recording. It’s definitely a girly show but it is SO MUCH FUN. I have some killer electric bass parts which have been a blast to play. 

I had my first rehearsal with my accompanist, which was very eye opening for me, I have a lot of work to do between now and my recital. But my performance anxiety has been pretty under control since Monday so I’m hoping I’m learning how to manage the stress of the recital.

Sunday Grubday

For the next two weeks I will be playing in the pit orchestra for Legally Blonde (the musical)!  I am soooo excited to be able to play this show – mostly because I love the music, but also I think it will be a great chop builder for my electric bass playing! However, with super long tech rehearsals the next 3 nights and then 11 nights of shows with only 1 night break, my free time is going to be very limited  non-existent. So I’ve meal planned the hell out of this week and next to make sure I don’t eat crappy when I need to be on my physical A-game and make sure I actually have food to eat. 

For breakfast I made my usual baked eggs, but rather than oatmeal or pancakes, this week I went for muffins – still made with oats of course. I made the Spokane Dinner Club’s Pumpkin Oat n’ Honey Muffins. I’m not the biggest fan of honey but as the batter came together the spices and pumpkin seemed to mask the overt sweetness. Mine did not look anything like the website photo, my oats weren’t ground finely enough for that. But they smell delicious and I made enough to freeze 6 for next week’s breakfast as well! 

For lunches I LOVED whipping up the easy one-pot chicken quinoa soup from Runner’s World. I’ve made this soup before without the mushrooms and using couscous instead of quinoa. It smelled delicious and I’m looking forward to eating this everyday. Sidenote: I always use chicken breast instead of chicken thighs in any recipe, just personal preference. 

For dinner I will be having salsa black bean chicken on top of a salad with spicy lime dressing. This recipe is insanely easy! 
Ingredients 
2 chicken breasts 
1.5 cups chunky hot salsa 
1 can rinsed, drained black beans 
(1 bag frozen corn optional) 
Directions 
Put all ingredients in a crockpot. Cook on high 4 hours or low for 8 hours. (EASY RIGHT?!) 

I’m hoping that I won’t end up being out too late with all the rehearsals and shows because I NEED to get my workouts in this week (11 mile run on Saturday morning too!) and I have a ton of music to learn for my recital which is in 33 days!!! 

The weather has been SOOO gorgeous this weekend. I’m sure we will return to the heat that I love  struggle to love, but it was amazing to have both of my runs this weekend be in upper 60’s weather.
