Too LONG!!!!

It has been much too long since my last post AND my last run until today. I had a minor surgery to remove a benign tumor and do a biopsy 2 weeks ago tomorrow and as I am laying on the operating table the doctor casually mentions “oh and no running for probably 10 days.” My mom laughed at me when she saw the panic in my face. I have about 7 weeks until this half marathon and I just came off a 2 week break. I am not feeling super confident about the mileage build up and getting the time I want, but I am sure I’ll be able to finish the race.

With this surgery ordeal over AND my recital over I am stoked to get back to running and training harder. My abs felt super weak today…PLANKS all day, everyday! I’m also just mentally happy to be running again, I always am in such a better mood when I’ve gone running and am keeping a consistent schedule. Back to all smiles 🙂 🙂 🙂

The weather was PERFECT for a run today, too cold though for just walking around. I want my sunny and 75 back!!!

Running with my Dad!!

A long time ago I really didn’t like when Dad dragged me outside to run just one lap around the neighborhood – about .6 miles. I coughed and wheezed, and complained endlessly I’m sure. Dad was always right that I could do whatever I wanted, which I applied to so many other things in life, but back then I had NO interest in running.

Now that I get it, I love running with my dad when we can, he’s always been so much faster than me and in my opinion he makes it look easy. Last year some of you may have read that for his birthday we ran a 5k together and it was my first organized race! Today we ran together and Dad hadn’t run in awhile. He ran just as fast as always, and while he says he followed my pace…I’m pretty I started faster than normal just because I was scared I’d be left in the dust. Also, after my run I ate fresh pineapple…that Sasha gave me…it was DELICIOUS.

I was glad we went for a run at 3pm, because not only was the weather GORGEOUS, but the MCMarathon registration started. I was sad because I would love to run that race again – and finish in one-piece with a much better time. But I started looking at some races in Dallas, Austin, and Fort-Worth which will be mostly nice and flat!

It’s Warmer in Texas

I’m 99.9% sure I’m going to Baylor for my Masters!! I’m so excited because that means NO SNOW in March. While Texas may get cold, it’s certainly not going to be as cold as the valley in the winter time. 

Today I was going to run another long run Monday. HAHA. Not. Snow on March 5th got in my way. I didn’t bring home any of my cold running gear because I wasn’t expecting it to be this cold. I’m hoping that the warm weather (70s!) will get here sooner than Thursday so I can go back to running in shorts. Instead of running I practiced and researched apartments in Waco. I’m hopefully going for a very early run tomorrow, maybe on a treadmill if I must because it will still be cold. Tonight I’ll just head over to the gym and do just some weights, abs, and light cardio. Last week I ran 12 miles over 4 days including a single 5 miler. This is the most I’ve run since mid-October and I don’t want to push my luck, I still have plenty of time before the half-marathon!

It is almost break. I ran today. I am soooo distracted today. Excited to be running 4-5 days this week!!! Training again makes me motivated. The end.

Rain -1 Sarah – 0

I set my alarm for 8am this morning, for a run, breakfast, shower, warm-up busy kind of morning. As soon as I heard all the rain pounding on my window as I went to turn off my alarm, I immediately rolled back over and went to sleep. By noon it had cleared up and when I got out of rehearsal early at 4:15 this afternoon it was bright and sunny. So I headed home to hit the pavement.

After getting changed, a long thunder clap rattled my windows and Thor!!! (the storm warning system around JMU) blared it’s sirens. I went out anyways in an attempt to beat the rain with a short sprints run. Shockingly, I did not beat the rain and ended up drenched back at my house. I was glad I went out for a run though because I had an awful day and I needed something to pick up my mood and make me feel better about myself. Thankfully right after my run I checked my e-mail and had my official acceptance letter from Baylor!!! So now I feel great. I’m still hoping it will be much sunnier tomorrow when I head out for a mid-run before work.

QOD – Mental will is a muscle that needs exercise, just like the muscles of the body.
